Elaboration for the course "Information Rules 1"
Abstract
Administrations, as institutions of the state, are located within a natural discourse range of political, as well as security and cost aspects - in particular concerning decisions regarding IT projects. Based on some current projects we will examine those aspects regarding
the use of Linux in the administration in close detail. Comparing Linux with equivalent proprietary solutions, we conclude that Linux, concerning costs and security, performs at least equal. Political tendencies within europe are about to force the use of Open Source Software in the public sector.
