Generic medicines as an instance of intellectual property rights
Abstract
Beginning with a short description on generic medicines and the conditions to produce generic medicines in Germany, the presentation embraces the following questions.
1. What are the international legal provisions on patents and what kind of problems arise in development countries, if patents are applied for medicines.
2. What opinions do have NGOs and pharmaceutical concerns about this?
3. Do only development countries have problems with applying patents for medicines?
The presentation ends with a suggestion to discuss the development of medicines with open-source methods.
